The Leapfrog Group's web site states that medical mistakes in hospitals are the number one cause of death in the United States.  Most medical mistakes are avoidable and that something can be done to prevent them.

The Leapfrog Group is comprised of 150 Fortune 500 corporations and other large private and public sector purchasers of health care benefits.   They publish information on hospital quality so consumers can make informed hospital decisions. 

Hospitals provide information to The Leapfrog Group through a voluntary survey.  About  500 hospitals have responded.  The information can be accessed through their web site.  Use the link above.

The data is available by hospital .Search hospitals by name or geography. A quick method is to search by state and choose the hospitals you are interested in.  The site provides four health issues quality measures by hospital.

  • Surgical infection Prevention
